| Materials Needed To Install A Stone Mantel | |
| 1.
One 50 LB. Bag Of White Thinset, Durabond Manufactured By Dap (Mix thinset to thick consistency that does not run) 2. Two 5 Gallon Buckets 1 for warm water and 1 for thinset mortar 3. 1/2" Mixing Drill 4. Mixing Blade For Drill (to mix thinset) 5. 1/2" Notched Trowel 6. Rubber Floats (applique of the thinset) 7. Sponges (to wipe off thinset) 8. 4 Foot Level 9. Construction Adhesive (for top shelf) 10. Tree Bow Saw ( to cut legs as needed) (Can use a shark tooth saw, will take longer & may ruin your saw) 11. Mounting Brace (for support of the top shelf) (Can be a 2x2 or 2x4) 12. For Extra Support, You Can Use Lag Bolts (a total of 10 (2 for each leg (4), 3 for header, 3 for shelf) |

1. SET AND LEVEL HEARTH IN A ADEQUATE BED OF THINSET MORTAR FILL GROVES ON TOP OF HEARTH TO SIMULATE MORTAL JOINTS. |

2. APPLY THINSET MORTAR TO BACK SIDE AND BOTTOM EDGE LEGS. SET INTO POSITION FOR YOUR FIREPLACE OPENING. USE LEVEL TO INSURE LEGS ARE PLUMB. |

3. APPLY THINSET MORTAR TO BACK OF HEADER AND ON TOP OF LEGS. SET IN PLACE AND CHECK LEVEL. |

4. APPLY THINSET MORTAR TO BACK SIDE OF THE SHELF AT THE EDGES ONLY. USING CONSTRUCTION ADHESIVE APPLY HEADER AND LARGE DAPS TO THE BACK OF THE SHELF INSIDE OF THE MORTAR BED EDGES. |
| 5. SET SHELF IN PLACE AND LEVEL. PROP-UP THE SHELF WITH A 2x4 FOR AT LEAST 24 HOURS TO INSURE THE SHELF ADHERES TO THE WALL. | |
| NOTES: WIDTH OF MORTAR JOINTS IS AT YOUR DISCRETION OR APPROXIMATELY 3/8" WIDE. WIPE EXCESS MORTAR FROM AROUND THE JOINTS BEFORE IT DRIES. ENTIRE MANTEL MAY BE PAINTED AFTER CURING (APPROXIMATELY 2-3 WEEKS). |

| PAINTING PROCESS | |
| Before painting make sure the mantel is dry and cured (allow for 2 to 3 weeks after installation). For the best look use Krylon-Sandable Primer (white finish0. You may use a latex paint but you need to dilute the paint with water in order to soak into the pores of the mantel. | |
| CLEANING PROCESS | |
| Wipe down the mantel with warm soapy water (use non-abrasive soap). If spots will not come clean with water then use a medium to fine painters sanding block. Make sure the mantel is dry before sanding. Only sand down until you see powder or about 1/32 of an inch. | |
