NOTE: It is recommended that the inside of the mantel be kept a minimum of 6" away from your firebox opening (this can be filled in with a marble or tile of your choice). Each mantel is equipped with a 1" rabbet to accommodate the insert (marble , tile, etc). |
STEP 2: Once mantel is dry fit in place, trace an outline on wall. It is to be installed on and then remove it. |

STEP 3: Drill 1/2" dia. Holes (1" deep) into the wall about 1/4" inside the outline and 8" to 10" apart. |
STEP 4: Apply a continuous 1/4" bead of premium construction adhesive 1/4" inside the outline and inside the drilled holes until they are full (The adhesive will expand from the holes and act as an anchor). |
STEP 5: Install the sides (legs) first. You may have to shim with wedges to ensure they are level. |
STEP 6: Once legs are secured and leveled, install the top. (like the legs, you may have to shim with wedges to ensure it is level). |
STEP 7: Scrape off any excess adhesive that squeezes out around the mantel (this should be done ASAP as once the adhesive sets, it is harder to clean). |
Step 8: To hold mantel in place up against the wall until the adhesive is set, use braces for a minimum of 24 hours (you may use anything with enough weight that will hold the mantel securely to the wall). |
STEP 9: Fill any gaps around the mantel with a paintable latex caulk. |
NOTE: For mantels with a larger top, ie: 4101, 4101-TC, 4102-TC additional reinforcement is recommended. Follow steps 1 though 5 above then continue with STEP 6: Once legs are secured with adhesive and leveled, uninstall a block of wood 2x4 to the wall about 1 1/4" below the outline. STEP 7: Apply a gorgeous amount of adhesive to the top of the wood, then install the top of the mantel. Like the legs, the top may require wedges to level. Continue with steps 7 though 9 above. |

Finishing. All Gypsum Fireplace Mantels will accept lacquers, oil base or acrylic paints. Prime first, then apply paints in thin coats to avoid filling up the intricate design. For the finest results use flat or satin finishes only. All Thin Cast Stone Mantels are factory treated with a clear finish sealer. |
